Cleaner brushes, less mess

the Brush Saver Bands Invention

The invention is a silicone band designed to enhance the usability and maintenance of paintbrushes by preventing paint from drying on the ferrule and bristles during and after use, while also aiding in easier cleanup of any paint that does dry. The device consists of a flexible, cylindrical band made of silicone, a durable and non-reactive material known for its elasticity. For water-based, latex, and acrylic paints.

Flexible fit for any brush shape

How does it work?

The silicone band is sized to slide snugly over the ferrule—the metal component of a paintbrush that secures the bristles to the handle—while extending partially over the upper portion of the bristles. The band’s inner diameter is slightly smaller than the ferrule’s outer diameter, allowing it to stretch and conform to the ferrule’s shape (including any irregularities or contours, such as a wavy or angled profile) without slipping during use. The overhanging portion of the band, which extends downward over the bristles, acts as a protective barrier, preventing paint from wicking up into the ferrule area where it can dry and harden. This overhang typically covers approximately 10-20% of the bristle length, though the exact coverage may vary depending on the brush size and intended application.

Custom dimensions for every brush type

Fits Brushes Big and Small

For example, in one embodiment designed for a 3-inch brush, the silicone band measures approximately 160 mm in length, 30 mm in width, and 1.3 mm in thickness, providing a snug fit over the ferrule while overhanging the bristles sufficiently to block paint buildup. In another embodiment, tailored for a 2.5-inch brush, the band measures approximately 145 mm in length, 30 mm in width, and 1.3 mm in thickness, adjusting to the slightly smaller ferrule size while maintaining the same protective function. These dimensions are illustrative, and the band may be scaled or adjusted to accommodate various brush sizes and ferrule diameters, ensuring versatility across different paintbrush designs.

Keeps Paint Where It Belongs

Slip It On. Paint. Rinse.

The primary function of the silicone band is to simplify the cleaning process by keeping the ferrule and upper bristle area free of dried paint buildup. During painting, the band blocks paint from accumulating in the critical transition zone between the ferrule and bristles, which is typically difficult to clean thoroughly once paint dries there. Additionally, for any paint that does dry on the bristles below the band, the overhang forces it to dry farther away from the ferrule. This repositioning ensures that dried paint is easier to scrape away during cleaning, as it avoids the tight, hard-to-reach space where the bristles meet the ferrule. After use, the band is removed by sliding it off over the bristles during rinsing, allowing the user to easily wash the bristles and ferrule or scrape off any dried paint without the challenge of addressing hardened buildup in the ferrule-bristle junction. The silicone material is reusable, washable, and for water-based, latex, and acrylic paints.

It’s Time to Paint Smarter

Smart design for effortless maintenance

The invention may be produced in various sizes beyond the examples provided, with adjustable elasticity to ensure a tight fit across a range of ferrule diameters. Optional features could include textured grips on the band’s exterior for easier handling or slight tapering in the design to enhance the seal around the ferrule.

This silicone band provides a practical solution for artists, hobbyists, and professionals alike, extending the lifespan of paintbrushes and reducing the time and effort required for post-painting cleanup by addressing both prevention and ease of removal of dried paint.
